For those of you who work in schools
Good mental health plays a major role in people’s ability to cope with life in general. Most children and young people enjoy good mental health. However, we know that psychosocial problems are widespread, and this is a matter that concerns everyone. In your role as a teacher, you have a unique relationship with your students. At the same time, you bear a great responsibility, not least towards those students who are experiencing severe problems. The training programmes Mental Health in Schools have been created especially for you as a teacher, and for your students. The goal of the various programmes is to foster knowledge of how students can safeguard their own mental health, where they can get help, and how they can provide support for each other.
These programmes are adapted to students’ levels and needs, and are suitable for students at lower and upper secondary levels alike. We have also designed courses especially for teachers, aimed at improving your expertise and enhancing your ability to understand students who are experiencing psychological problems. You will also learn about good models for co-operation that exist between schools and Health and Social Services.
The Education Act The Education Act ensures that all students in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools have the right to a good physical and psychosocial environment that promotes health, well-being and learning. Protecting children and young people from isolation, bullying and harassment is a challenge. Knowing more about mental health will help to improve the lives of students who are experiencing problems. The training programmes in Mental Health in Schools can make a contribution in this area.
